Henry Langdon is the founder of Udamon. Henry’s background is education so he has designed and ran various educational programmes. Udamon is a platform that enables career starters and changes and shapes their decisions in life.
What inspired you to want to go into your current field? Was it always on your mind or did you ‘fall’ into the industry?
After creating different programs for the youth to support them in picking their career pathways, Henry realized that it would be beneficial to continue creating such resources via an online platform. Udamon responds to the need for creating a database of people with certain attributes and characteristics so that people can find a job that is much better suited to them.
What does Udamon mean and what philosophy does is hold?
Firstly, it is a made up word that Henry created himself. It’s root comes from a Greek term Eudaimonia which means “human flourishing, prosperity”. Udamon responds to a fast-changing careers landscape by helping young people take greater ownership of their professional development and direction, so they can make an impact where they are most needed. Currently, we seek to achieve this through our What Path? Programme: a philosophical and practical online career guidance course. Entirely self-directed, the programme equips participants with a meaningful understanding of how they can use their strengths and preferences to seek and prepare for career paths they can excel at.
What would you say the youth should take into account when making a career decision?
Henry thinks that satisfaction and what people prioritize will be very subjective, so he would never suggest to a person what they should or shouldn’t prioritize. He thinks that people should really take into account goal setting and not being too “future focused”. The other key point is to embrace uncertainty.
If you could leave the youth with one piece of advice, what would it be?
Avoid speed at all costs.
